Addiction is a compulsive, chronic, physiological, or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, behavior, or activity having harmful physical, psychological, or social effects. Sudden withdrawal from addiction causes well-defined symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, tremors, or nausea. If you want to be free of addiction and experience life on a higher level, feed on Jesus. Jesus breaks chains.
I lay on my bed last night, thinking about the many paths that I have traveled. The roughest one was drug addiction. I was addicted to crack cocaine for twelve years. They were the worst years of my life. Although I was surrounded by people, I was alone and afraid. I was ashamed of doing something that I didn’t want to do. I knew I was trapped in an interminable cycle, but I didn’t know what to do about it.
Then I started reading my Bible and things started to slowly change. I got hungry, but my hunger was not for drugs or food, but rather I became hungry for the word of God. The more I read my Bible, the more I wanted to read it. I began to see a different Jesus than the one that people told me about, and in my darkest hour, Jesus came and visited me.
Jesus is the Chain Breaker
Jesus is the “Chain Breaker.” Whatever you are addicted to, if you feed on Jesus He will break the chains of addiction. He will give you power, His power, to overcome your addiction. You see friend, without Christ, you have no power over the forces of darkness. Anything that has you bound is of darkness.
As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.John 6:57
When you feed on Jesus, you will come alive. Jesus is our living, risen Savior. Jesus lives because He has the life of our heavenly Father in Him. The power of God in Him gives Him the power to break your chains of addiction. But how do you feed on Jesus? The way to feed on Jesus is by reading and meditating on His word.
God is Our Loving Father
Jesus is the Word of God and He came to earth to reveal the Father to us. Friend, Jesus wants you to know that God desires to be more than just your “God,” He wants you to know Him as your heavenly Father. We get a glimpse of the Father’s love in the Parable of the Lost Son. Like in the parable, your heavenly Father desires to restore you to your rightful place in His heavenly Family. Howbeit, you have to consent to be restored.
Satan knows that if he can keep you thinking logically, you will never see Jesus as the One who can break your chains of addiction. You see, it’s rational to think that going to a treatment center will heal you. However, in reality, it won’t. Rehabilitation therapists can help you manage your addiction, but they cannot heal you. No one has the power to heal but God. So feed on Jesus and live the good life. Remember Jesus lives because He has the life of the Father in Him. That same power can reside in you if you feed on Jesus. Consent to have your chains broken by the chain breaker, and He will deliver you from your addiction.
