” I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears” (Psalm 18:1-3, 6).
Trust in the Lord
The Bible says we should trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and not lean on our understanding. If we acknowledge God in all our ways, He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). When King Saul heard that David was going to fight Goliath, he gave David his sword and his armor. Surely he thought, “God will deliver David if he had a sword and a shield. He reasoned within his mind that if David was going to have a chance against Goliath, he would need more than a sling and a stone.
But David was not a warrior, he was a shepherd. He could not walk with Saul’s armor. So David took the armor off and gave it back to the king. David told the king of the times a lion and a bear came and took a lamb from his father’s flock, How he killed them and delivered the lamb. Then David said to the king, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
When you trust in the Lord, God will deliver you. When you have a problem don’t look at how big your problem is. Instead of magnifying the problem, look at how big your God is. Whatever you are going through today, put your trust in the Lord and God will deliver you. Recall to mind the times that God gave you victory over your circumstances, times when you knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was God who delivered you.
Be Confident That God Will Deliver You
When you say you trust in the Lord, do you believe God will deliver you? Or are you like Saul, depending on your wisdom and strength to deliver you? Saul was tall but Goliath was taller. Saul was a warrior but Goliath was a mighty warrior. No doubt, Saul compared his strength and size to the size and strength of Goliath.
When David faced Goliath, he didn’t focus on his disadvantage. He knew he was no match for Goliath. After all, Goliath was a mighty warrior. All of Israel was afraid of him. But David recalled the times when God had delivered him from the seemingly impossible. He remembered how he was no match for the bear or the lion. But because he trusted in the Lord, he prevailed against them.
David did not focus on the fact that he was a mere shepherd. He focused on the Lord, who was his Shepherd. You see, David knew the Lord was his Shepherd and that He was with him even in the valley of the shadow of death. When trouble comes, do what David did: stand your ground and God will deliver you.
Power of Words
The Scripture says we have the same spirit of faith as God. It reads: “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13). David believed God would give him the victory over Goliath and he spoke what he believed. He said to Goliath, “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel” (1 Samuel 17:47).
Your words have power. The Scriptures say, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). David spoke victory to himself and death to Goliath. In Psalms 91:2 the psalmist says, “I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” It is not enough to believe in God. Your faith must also speak.
By and by, your tongue will speak from the abundance of your heart. What are you saying to yourself? Are you speaking words that will cause you to be defeated, or words that will give you victory? The Scriptures say, we overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11). Do not be intimidated by the size of your problem. Speak death to your problem. Put your trust in the Lord and God will deliver you.
