“Look upon my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins” (Psalm 25:18).
When we pray, we pray about our affliction but rarely do we make mention of our sins. When we pray, we should also link our sorrows with our petitions concerning our sins. The mind connects trouble and sin. So, when we are afflicted, we naturally wonder whether it is because we are guilty of a particular sin. David carried all of his sorrow to God. But he also confessed his sin to God. David constantly sought God’s direction. When perplexed, in doubt, in difficulty, and in danger, David looked to God for guidance. Like David, you must take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there, for God says, I will help you.
Friend, God cares so intimately for you that He even counts the hairs on your head. Whatever is troubling you, you don’t have to carry your burdens alone. Take your burdens to the Lord. He is always willing and able to help you. Our God is a very present help when we need Him. But you must not forget to take your sins to God too. You must carry your sins to the cross and cover them with the blood of Christ.
When David prayed concerning his sorrow, he said, “Look upon my affliction and my pain,” but in the same sentence he added, “…and forgive my sins.” David took his cares to the Lord and left them with God. Likewise, you must take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.
The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When we humble ourselves before God, acknowledging our iniquity, His holiness, and our utter helplessness, He is faithful because to such he has promised mercy. For Christ has died for us, and thus made atonement to the Divine justice; so that God can now be just, and the justifier of those who put their trust in Jesus. Today, take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.
Heavenly Father, I come to You now in the Name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I ask that You look upon my affliction and my pain. Forgive my transgressions, wash me from my iniquities, and cleanse me of my sins. Make me know Your joy and gladness and forgive me of my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Forgive me for any unforgiveness, unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, envy, deceit, hatred, and pride. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
