To forgive is to stop feeling angry or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, or misunderstanding, right? Not so fast! That is the way the carnal mind defines what it means to forgive. When we pardon someone it does not necessarily mean that we forget the wrong done to us. It does, however, mean that we chose to release the offense, or excuse the offender. When we condone wrong we make a conscious decision that has nothing to do with feelings.

Too often we let our feelings get in the way because it feels good to hold on to our sentiments of being wronged. The only way to truly overlook, pardon, or otherwise excuse someone who has wronged us is to experience God’s love. As an expression of His unfathomable love, God offered up His Son as a sacrifice to redeem us from death. This is how we know God forgives: He forgave us of a debt that we could never pay. By faith in His Son, we are forgiven.
