“God resists the proud, But He gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6-7 ).
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
1 Peter 5:8 tells us that the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. But you don’t have to become one of his victims. Stop fighting a defeated enemy. The Bible says if you remain humble and submit to God, the devil will turn tail and run. Understand that God gives grace to the humble but also recognize that God resists the proud.
God Gives Grace to the Humble
Pride and humility are much like oil and water. Although both are liquid they do not mix. Not only does pride hinder your ability to receive from God, but it also causes you to focus on your own efforts and turn away from God’s grace. Many times we are unaware that pride is operating in our lives. That’s because pride makes you think you can. But when you humble yourself God’s grace says God will.”
It’s easy to become prideful without recognizing it. It is human to credit ourselves when we attain success. For example, we believe our work ethics are the reason for our financial success. We have confidence that our good credit will secure our future.
However, it’s not so easy to be humble. To be humble is not to think less of yourself, but to think of yourself less. Don’t think less of yourself because you didn’t get that job promotion. Rather, hold your head up and look for a blessing. God gives grace to the humble. The Bible says if you humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, He will exalt you in due time (1 Peter 5:6). Don’t allow the troubles of life to weigh you down. When you know that God is in control you will be confident that the Creator of the universe is working things out on your behalf.
Thank You, Father, for your grace that is operating in my life. Today, I will humble myself under Your mighty hand.
